e he As told by Founder and Leader Tony LLanes..

Back in the very early 70's. The STRUT Band was a three piece band, of myself, Tony Llanes, Paul Valdez, and Alex Vega. We used to practice in a little park in Ybor City on Nebraska Ave. just north of Columbus Dr. We would set up our equipmentand just play, not knowing what the heck we were doing. Had only about a year playing myself as well as the bass player Paul. Just jamming in the park and all the kids would come and just Dance! It was a fun time! Then I said, let's find a keyboard player. So, we did! His name was Jim Moon. RIP.  Ok. had fun with that so, then I said, lets get a girl singer to add a lot of  female songs to the list. Her name was Kathy Lopez. Well, that didn't last long. She booked it right before our first gig! Not so much has changed..lol. So, we came across this great singer. Her name was Joyce Porter..that was her stage name. Her real name was Joyce Schwartz. RIP. She was an awesome person! So, our first gig as STRUT was a bowling alley lounge in Zephyrhills, Fl. In fact, I have a recording of that gig on a little Panasonic cassette player!  After that, we went on the road for a few years with the Jean Martin Agency (because we weren't quite good enough for the Tampa scene yet.) There were some Hot Bands back then to compete with and you know who you are! Here are a few..Oscar Santana, Hit and Run, Asule, Solution, Exchange, Tampa and many more! Then I met this agent named Ron Skolnik with Talent South. His bands and we, played a certain circuitlike the Casbah Lounge, The Stables, The Brass Balloon, The Islands Club, The Pad, to name a few. So now we were added onto the circuit and that's where we were introduced to all you wonderfull and loyal people till this day that come out and support us. Now, that's loyalty after all these years! You can say, we grew up together. In fact, some of us did! I love seeing you all dancing and having fun! It makes it worthwild, makes me happy and brings back some great memories. Takes us back to a good and fun time in our lives just to reminisce of the Good Old Days whe we danced our butts off! We can still do it..the proof is every time we play..you guys are there! Love all of you!! Tonywere doing.
